Romance Road Show 2009 In May 2009 I attended the second Romance Writers of Australia's Perth Romance Road Show. From a personal perspective the fabulous line up of inter-state speakers we had couldn't have been better as we had workshops on world building, writing the paranormal and a Sealed Section on erotic romance. Kelly Hunter, President of the RWA and Harlequin Mills and Boon Modern Heat author, kicked off the Conference. Here I am with Nikki Logan, who just a few months after the inaugural Road Show signed a two book deal with Harlequin Mills and Boon. Go, Nikki!
Keri Arthur, author of the New York Times and USA Today bestselling Riley Jenson, Guardian series gave world building workshops on how to successfully create an alternative and believable environment in our fantasy, SF, UF or paranormal romance.
There was also a Sealed Section with Ellora's Cave and Berkley Sensation author, Denise Rossetti, where we discussed guaranteed turn-ons as well as guaranteed turn-offs, language of the genre and what's hot at the moment.
We also had sessions on Deep Point of View, how to create effective story dialogue and the importance of the Romance Hero! Big thanks to the wonderful ladies on the Perth Committee who put together a truly memorable local conference for romance writers in Western Australia! |
